A New Tradition (Soaps in Depth 2/15/05)
As a Canadian transplant living in New York City, Bree Williamson
(Jessica) has grown accustomed to celebrating American holidays. One holiday
the countries do share is Thanksgiving -- albeit on different dates. "Canadian
Thanksgiving is in October because our harvest is sooner than the American
harvest," the actress explains. This past November, the Canuck experienced
her first American Thanksgiving. "A good friend of mine hosts a dinner every
year for foreigners, and there were about 20 of us at her house -- but it
[wasn't] our Thanksgiving," she reports with a laugh. Although there were
guests from all over the globe, they each understood the significance of
the holiday to Americans. "Most of the people there had lived in teh States
for a couple of years, so they pretty much knew what was going on." And even
though Williamson celebrates the holiday in her country, she points out,
"It's not as big a deal n Canada as it is in the States."
