BREE ON JESSICA
Bree on the Character of Jessica
(defending Jessica) "I think because she lived a sheltered life, she
might be, in some ways, more trusting and naive than other people. But I
think that she's really a very, very smart girl. Very very smart." (SOD
1/11/05)
"It's just not in Jessica's nature to sit back and watch the chips fall where
they may. She's going to go out and chase down the answers." (SOD 12/20/05)
"Jessica always looks on the bright side." (SOW 6/13/06)
(on the differences between Tess and Jessica) "They're both very extreme.
Jessica is very responsible and takes on other people's problems a lot of
the time; she's very smart and driven, and Tess is the exact opposite. So
I think that everybody has a bit of both of Jess and Tess in them!" (SID
8/15/06)
"Jessica is pretty amazing. And I love her relationship with her family.
I don't know how you can ever get bored playing a character like her every
day!" (SID 8/29/06)
(on what advice she would give Jessica on love) "Why choose when you
could have both?" (SID 11/21/06)
(on what New Year's Resolution she would make for Jessica) "To think
before she reacts." (SID 1/2/07)
"Jessica is always guilty. She always feels bad for everything that happens to everybody. It's her tragic flaw. She was raised really, really well. She's always apologizing for the perils of everybody else in the world and everything. It gets her into trouble sometimes." (SoapNet Promo 2008)
(on what story she wants for Jessica in the future) "Something exciting and life-changing. Something really fun -- not having to do with illness!" (SID 4/7/08)
(on what she would steal from Jessica's wardrobe) "A lot of her bags and all of her winter coats. They spend so much money on winter coats and they're so gorgeous." (SOD 9/16/08)
Bree on Jessica and the DID Stories
(on what the audience can expect during the DID storyline) "It's totally
gonna change the character forever. I think that maybe this will help the
audience accept why Jessica made some of those not-so-strong choices over
the past year." (SOD 6/14/05)
(on Jessica and Tess's reactions to Nash's death) "It's interesting to show how Jessica gets angry and Tess gets angry. Jessica is crying, showing emotion -- it's more of a healthy anger. And Tess is just like, 'Yeah, whatever, I'm fine,' in a murderous, kind of icy way. I love that." (SOD 7/1/08)
(her opinion of the writing for Jessica/Tess and Nash's death) "I haven't had one line that I said in awhile where I'm like [groaning], 'I don't want to say that.'" (SOD Insider July 2008)
(on the fact that the re-integrated Jessica is going to be more Tess-like) "From what I've read, after all this, Jessica is going to be a new Jessica. I'm excited to see what they do with her once [all the personalities] are integrated this time." (SID 12/1/08)
(on whether Jessica might have a male alter like Viki's "Tommy" alter) "Agh! That would be a challenge, because I don't think there is anything male in me at all! But anything is possible!" (SID 12/1/08)
(on what Jessica should get for Christmas 2008) "Oh man, what she needs I don't think Santa can bring!" (SID 12/29/08)
(on what Jessica's New Year's resolution should be) "To not let Tess ever take control again!" (SID 12/29/08)
Bree on Various Other Jessica Stories and Scenes
(on the liver cancer storyline) "The makeup was awful. I recently looked back at those scenes because I was pre-nominated [for an Emmy], and I couldn't use any of the cancer stuff because I was orange. And it was weird, because at the time I was shooting it, I didn't think I looked that bad!" (SID 4/7/08)
(on why Jessica married Tico Santi in 2004) "It was complicated. Antonio found out that he was a Santi and left her, and I think she kinda felt sorry for Tico." (SOD 6/10/08)
Bree on Jessica and Motherhood
(on the difference between playing the pregnancy as Tess or Jessica)
"Whenever Jess was out, her hands were all over her belly and she was
very aware of her belly. ... You know, some women when they're pregnant,
carry it like a purse, and some carry it like they're actually carrying a
baby. So, Jessica was the latter." (SOD 5/30/06)
(on playing Jessica as a mother) "Not only do I not have kids, I'm
also the youngest woman in my family, so I don't hold babies, I've never
changed a diaper, so it was really funny that everybody assumed that if they
threw this pretty much newborn baby in my lap, I would figure it out! Because
Jessica was a new mother, it kind of worked, but if the child's nanny or
the child's mom was on set, I would be like, 'How do I hold her? What do
I do?'" (SOD 5/15/07)
(on Jessica's pregnancy in 2008) "I can't wait to have kids, and the storyline makes it worse. I was telling Kimberly McCullough [Robin], who's playing pregnant on General Hospital, 'They're going to hand you one of those nuggets at work to hold and play with all day when you're acting and you're going to freak out! You're going to be like, "I want to get pregnant right now! I want one of these babies!"' It screws with your brain a little bit." (SOD 7/22/08)
Bree on Jessica/Antonio
(on Jessica's reluctance to reunite with Antonio after the Santi storyline)
"[Antonio] made her feel awful, like a child. Even before he walked out
on her, he just made her feel not important enough to have in his life."
(SOD 1/18/05)
(on whether or not Jessica and Antonio can reunite during the DID storyline)
"It's a very tumultuous time for [them]. It isn't going to heal overnight.
You're going to see a different side of Jessica. Who knows where it's going?"
(SOD 2/8/05)
(on whether or not Jessica rushed into marriage with Antonio) "Yes,
and Antonio rushed, too. There's definitely some reason why he proposed and
was like, 'We want to get married as soon as possible. Like now.'" (SOD
11/21/06)
(on the Jessica and Antonio break-up) "The first person I worked with
on the show when I was hired was Kamar [de los Reyes (Antonio)]. They had
this relationship planned from the beginning, and now it's over. That was
sad and disappointing, but Robert [Montano, temporary Antonio] was really,
really good, and the scenes were good." (SOD.com 5/15/07)
"Everything moved so quickly for Jessica after the integration that she really
didn't get the chance to live and breathe as this new person before she married
Antonio." (SOD 5/15/07)
(on Jessica's divorce from Antonio and quick wedding to Nash afterward) "Jessica getting divorced and married in the same couple of days? Not really the classiest route to go. There are circumstances, and then there's who Jessica is as a person. She broke up with Antonio. That was horrible. There's no easy way to get a divorce and break up with somebody. You have to do it as soon as you know you don't want to be with the person anymore, and Jessica dragged her feet on that. I'm not trying to excuse these things, but she's human." (SOW 9/18/07)
(on whether or not Jessica should try to make things right with Antonio) "There's no good way to handle that. I don't think there's anything Jessica could do right now to be nice. The only thing she could do is leave town and they're not going to do that, obviously. The other nice thing she could do is be as miserable as he is, but I don't think he's that miserable. He's been hanging out with Talia. She's pretty hot." (SOW 9/18/07)
(on Kamar de los Reyes's [Antonio] absence during the filming of Jessica and Antonio's break-up scenes) "The most disappointing thing about that story was that Kamar couldn't play the big break-up scene. I did my first scene ever on the show with him, and pretty much since I started, they were working to have Antonio and Jess be together." (SID 4/7/08)
Bree On Jessica's Family
"I like to see Natalie and Jessica getting along. I like the idea of a strong
female relationship -- not a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, but one that
is just as interesting to watch." (SID 5/21/05)
(on Jessica and Viki reconnecting after Tess) "There's a lot that
hasn't been addressed because Tess was out, so there wasn't any real Viki
and Jessica time. That happens, and they're the best scenes I think I've
done in all this. Erika [Slezak, Viki] made me cry." (SOD 6/13/06)
(on Jessica's reaction to Jared/Natalie) "He's a jerk and [Jessica] wants him to stay away from her sister. It's nothing else but her wanting to protect her sister; it's not jealousy or anything else." (SOD 9/25/07)
(on Jessica/Natalie) "It's a really great relationship, and I like that they're writing about the positives and negatives of sibling rivalry. It's also great that they have strong female relationships on the show." (SID 4/7/08)
(on Jessica/Natalie after Nash's death) "That relationship is permanently damaged. Forever! It will never, ever be the same." (SOW 7/1/08)
