All The Wrong Moves (Soaps In Depth 10/23/07)
When One Life to Live's Forbes March (Nash) fulfilled his dream of buying
a farm a few months ago, everything seemed great...until a moving company
trekked his things across the country! "Every single piece of furniture got
broken," he says ruefully. "They snapped a leg off the chair of my walnut
dining room set, broke two rungs off my oak rocking chair and dragged plastic
boxes with my dad's and grandfather's tools so far across concrete that the
corners wore through and the boxes were empty. All the heavy stuff they said
couldn't fit in the doors was left on the front porch underneath the rain,
and a California leather sofa, an armchair, an ottoman and a roll-top desk
were left in the garage -- half-in and half-out -- as they tried closing
the door on top of them!" Obviously, the normally laid-back actor wasn't
too happy about this. "I sent a letter to the company president and got a
phone call [saying], 'We'll send you a claim form, and you'll have to have
each piece appraised, including a copy of the original receipt, with the
name and address of the vendor," he says. "They're antiques -- give me a
break! On top of it all, I was only insured for 60 cents per pound." Well,
at least March learned a lesson from this ordeal. "If you're going to move
from Los Angeles to New York," he offers, "check the company with the Better
Business Bureau before you do...otherwise, you could find yourself on the
front porch."
